20 Sept Weekly Recap: Home

I returned to Denmark on Sunday night. I’m not sure if it’s my age or the stark contrast between the fast pace of my U.S. trips and the slower life here, but I’ve felt a bit disoriented. This week has been a mental struggle. I had a hard time focusing, and even though I produced a lot of content for HBCUvc—including the Black Venture Report, the VC Fellowship Impact Report, and the Faculty Tour Recap—I still felt overwhelmed and unproductive.

Despite this, I had some impactful conversations with Jody Chang from SV2 and Thomas Knowles from Gratitude Railroad, both of whom offered valuable insights on how HBCUvc can think about building its fund.

In podcast news, I listened to Bonnie Lin’s interview on the Lead With a Question podcast, which was inspiring and a reminder to remember what’s most important in our work, the communities we serve.

I mostly kept up with my daily 5k walks, though I missed a couple of days and skipped strength training. I know this definitely affected my mental state. One of my favorite parts of being home is running into neighbors in the forest during my walks and catching up with them in conversation. It tickles my soul, and I can’t help but think that this little girl from Philly would have never imagined this as part of her life.

This week’s meditation is from Galatians 5:6 (NLT): “…What is important is faith expressing itself in love.”

I’m praying that I’ll be able to write next week’s recap with a clearer mind and better spirits.

Vi ses!

  1. I’m grateful to be on your list. I needed to read these words today. And I hope we can one day soon reconnect. Cheering for you and the joy in the mundane, today and everyday.
