Okay, so it wasn’t nearly dramatic. But this week, I gave notice to my company after 10 years of service. It just became obviously apparent this week, that I was learning more outside of work, than while at work. And my only reasons for staying and dealing with a daily 5 hour commute roundtrip was for a stable paycheck. Stable paycheck was no longer enough.
So, here is where I am. To be completely honest, I don’t have a defined path of what will happen now. And more honesty, I’m a bit scared (maybe more than a bit). But I look forward to the change. And if I completely screw this up, I figure it can’t be too hard for an unemployed software engineer to find a gig in Silicon Valley, right?

Congratulations! This is huge for you and it you will look back on it as a defining moment. Hold on tight…this is where the ride of life gets fun! One of my favorite quotes in times like this “I am not afraid, I was born to do this.” Joan of Arc.
I also just recently quit my job as a software engineer for similar reasons. It was the best decision I’ve made in a while.
