Hej – I’m Hadiyah.
I’m an angel investor based just outside of Aarhus, Denmark. Originally from the U.S., I currently invest through the Ada Ventures Danish Angel Fund. I have a background in software development and over a decade of experience working with early-stage founders. I focus on pre-seed investments in startups with a strong technical foundation, global ambitions, and potential to scale beyond Denmark.
I’m especially excited to support companies building in Jutland, where I live with my Danish husband and our two young children. Investing locally is one way I stay rooted in this community while bridging my international network and experience.
My typical check size is £10,000, and I prefer to get involved early — ideally when there’s still space to shape, iterate, and learn together.
My Full-Time Work in the U.S.
Alongside my angel investing in Denmark, I lead a nonprofit organization in the U.S. called HBCUvc. There, I’ve built nationally recognized programs that support the career development of emerging investors and startup leaders. My work focuses on venture education, ecosystem design, and helping founders and fund managers navigate the early stages of building and raising capital.
This experience shapes how I show up for founders here — with a practical mindset, global perspective, and appreciation for the messy, early work of turning a bold idea into something real.
What I’m Looking For
I invest in companies aligned with Ada Ventures’ core themes:
- Climate Equity
- Healthy Aging
- Economic Empowerment
And I’m personally drawn to:
- Founders with a deep connection to the market they’re building in
- Products with a technical moat and scalable model
- Teams with international ambition, not limited to Denmark
- Founders who have worked in multicultural environments and communicate across cultures with clarity and humility
- People who are self-aware, have thought deeply about risks and competition, and can engage in honest conversations about both
What I Avoid
I do not invest in companies building weapons or any technology that could be leveraged to harm society. I understand that this can be nuanced — especially in the earliest stages of innovation — so I welcome open dialogue about intended and unintended impact.
How I Invest
I generally like to have at least two conversations before making an investment decision. All investments require pre-approval from the Ada Ventures team, but the legal structure is flexible — whatever works best for the round, as long as it doesn’t include any unusual terms.
While I’m focused on investing locally in Denmark, I’m also able to scout UK-based companies for Ada Ventures. If you’re a UK founder whose work aligns with Ada’s thesis, I’m happy to explore ways we might work together.
How I Support Founders
At this stage, capital is just one part of what’s needed. I aim to be a thoughtful and strategic partner who can:
- Give product or technical feedback (based on my background as a developer)
- Help refine your pitch and position for international fundraising
- Tap into my U.S. network of investors and operators
- Offer clarity and perspective when you’re navigating uncertainty or doubt
- Be responsive, available, and honest — even if it’s just to say, “I don’t know yet”
A Bit About Me
My first language is American English, but I understand Danish and speak it at a conversational level. I sometimes get self-conscious about my pronunciation — but I really welcome the opportunity to practice more.
As someone raising a family here and building a life in Denmark, I’m committed to contributing to the long-term growth of the startup ecosystem, especially in regions like Jutland that are often overlooked by early-stage investors.
Why I Invest in Denmark
I believe early-stage investing is about trust, potential, and shaping the future — not just financial returns. I’m excited to play a small role in supporting the next wave of innovation and learning alongside ambitious founders who are building the world they want to live in.
If you’re building something globally ambitious and technically exciting — especially in Jutland — I’d love to connect.
