F is for Ferguson

Yesterday, another young black man was shot by the police in Ferguson, Mo. A community of brown people witnessed through social media yet another man (who could’ve been our brother, son, father, friend) laying in his blood in the streets. Officers stood over him in uniform appearing without emotion. Strange Fruit 2.0

G is for Google

Today, one of the biggest tech companies showed us how big they were by creating a bigger company and shuffling around their organization. A community of tech enthusiasts wowed and cheered over social media. White boy high fives all around, as if they were all in the board room when the decision was made.

At the intersection of the first and second, they cheer, they mourn.

Tomorrow there will be another pointless article written about the lack of diversity in tech. And the smart people still won’t be able to figure out why.
